Spring Upward with US! "5 de mayo a las 5" Event Recording, Spring Appeal, & Strategic Plan

Dear Upward Scholars family,

Your continued support is needed now more than ever!

Thank you to all who attended our "5 de mayo a las 5" event yesterday. Over 90 supporters joined to learn how the Latinx immigrant community in San Mateo County continues to experience the pandemic. A special thank you to our panelists, moderator, and event sponsors — San Mateo Federal Credit Union, San Mateo County Community Colleges Foundation, and our lead sponsor, San Mateo County Community College District. If you missed it or want to share, click below.

We also warmly thank our students for trusting us with their stories and for modeling tenacity and resilience in the face of such uncertainty!

Our work continues...

For 2021, Upward Scholars will support 250 adult immigrant students in their educational and career development journeys. Our goal is to raise $250,000 by June 30 — $1,000 raised for each student assisted. Thank you to our anonymous donors who gave $1,500 in starter funds to help 1.5 students!

Over the coming weeks, you’ll hear directly from students who have been positively impacted by your contributions. With your help, they have continued in college, been resilient role models for their children, and remained hopeful knowing their Upward Scholars family is there to support them.

For our students, we are their community, family, and source of hope. With your continued support, we can have the resources to meet our students' needs and give them the gift of an education!

Thank you in advance for all that you do for our students!

While stretching to serve our students more deeply in 2020, Upward Scholars also created a new strategic plan to guide our activities over the coming years. The plan was developed with input from the board, staff, students, and partners. Upward Scholars is grateful to Sand Hill Foundation for its support with this effort. We invite you to read the executive summary of our 2021–2023 Strategic Plan.

Warmest regards,

Linda Prieto
