Spring Event "5 de mayo a las 5", 2020 Impact Report, JobUp Referral Program

Dear Upward Scholars family,

We are thrilled to invite you to attend our upcoming virtual event "5 de mayo a las 5". During this event, local thought leaders will highlight the experiences of Latinx immigrants in San Mateo County during the pandemic. With your support, we have been working hard to provide programs and services that capitalize on our students' strengths to support them as they continue on their academic journeys.

Local journalist Lorena Domínguez will moderate the session. Speakers include Executive Director of Upward Scholars Dr. Linda Prieto, Executive Director of Puente de la Costa Sur Rita Mancera, Vice President of Student Services at Cañada College Dr. Manuel A. Pérez, and two current college students.

2020 Impact Report

This past year presented us with new challenges and opportunities for success. We're so thankful for all we accomplished as an Upward Scholars family in support of our students and invite you to read our 2020 Impact Report. In the report, you'll not only learn about our impact since 2010 but also about the ways we've stretched during the pandemic to support our students and their families.

JobUp Referral Program

Upward Scholars' first-ever JobUp Referral Program launches today! Through this program, we match Upward Scholars students in need of employment with Upward Scholars community members requesting student services. It's a win-win for everyone!

Virtual Conversation Club

Upward Scholars Conversation Club is an ideal way to contribute if you don't have a lot of time but are eager to engage with Upward Scholars students. Students build self-confidence in their English conversation skills via this safe, friendly, and welcoming virtual environment.

Friends are reminded to focus on conversation topics that stimulate and inspire students’ educational journey, including what they are studying and what their goals are. During this event, please help us transport students away from topics that might stir emotional, painful memories. Specifically, we do not ask students about their immigration stories, such as why they came to the United States, how they got here, or their immigration status.

Our next virtual Conversation Club takes place:

Friday, April 30, 2021

6:30 to 7:45 pm

Please RSVP here by Wednesday, April 21.

Warmly,

Upward Scholars Staff
