Meet the Family: Kainat

Happy International Women’s Day! To commemorate the day, we introduce you to the newest member of the Upward Scholars team, Kainat Khan! 👏🎉

Kainat immigrated from Pakistan to the United States with her husband in 2015. Eager to learn and knowing she needed to master the language, she began English as a Second Language courses at Berkeley Adult School. Once completed, Kainat set her sights on obtaining a GED, which she did in 2019. Now, she is pursuing an associate degree in child development at Merritt College.

Kainat joined the Upward Scholars family as a student last year and joined our staff as our new East Bay Student Intern last month! As a Student Intern, Kainat will be instrumental in our Peralta Community College District outreach. “As an Upward Scholars student, I’m passionate about the power of education, and I want to help and support immigrants and low-income families in continuing their studies,” she says.
